CircAlloy training centre starts operations

The Australian Research Council Training Centre for Resource Efficient Alloys in a Circular Economy (circAlloy) is now live at Deakin University’s Institute for Frontier Materials.

circAlloy is backed by nearly $8 million in funding and will drive innovation into sustainable alloy development to support Australia’s transition to net zero.

The Centre brings together leading researchers from Deakin and University of Technology Sydney, as well as the Deakin Applied Artificial Intelligence Initiative along with industry partners including Bradken, Callidus, Bisalloy, Hysata, and Doogood.

circAlloy will be led by Professor Matthew Barnett, Chair in Metallurgy at Deakin’s Institute for Frontier Materials, alongside deputy directors Professor Daniel Fabijanic (Deakin) and Professor Damien Giurco (University of Technology Sydney).

“circAlloy aims to train a new generation of researchers to take circular economy principles into the metals processing industry,” Deakin Distinguished Professor Matthew Barnett, circAlloy director, said.

“This colloboration brings together three disciplines: metal science, sustainability science and AI.”

circAlloy will soon be recruiting Postdoctoral Fellows, Research Engineers, and PhD candidates to join its mission.
